Adding & Correcting Herd Inventory Data

One of the most important reports in GMS is the Lineage Report which represents the culmination of breeding efforts, the proof of the pudding.

Active and lineage animals can be added via the Herd Inventory screen, and there is a convenient tool within that screen to remind you which fields to populate for Active, Lineage, and Archived animal status:

There is a more expedient way to enter lineage animals, however, directly from the Lineage Report via the Quick Add feature.  Right-click on an empty animal record, the following Quick Add box will be displayed so that lineage  information can be easily entered:

What happens when a data entry error’s been made deep into the third through fifth generations of a deer?  How is this error corrected?

Since only the sire and dam of a herd inventory entry can be displayed in the Herd Inventory report, you will need to find the lineage animal with the data entry error and work directly from that animal’s herd inventory record.  There are two ways that this can be accomplished:

      (1) Open the Animal Search from the Breeder Package tab and search for Active, Lineage Only, Archived, or All deer under the Status block and then execute a search.  You can then find the animal in the search results, double click on it to view its herd inventory record and then edit the incorrect data from that point.  If any of the game/sex/tab/animal name fields need to be edited, you will have to click the Edit button at the bottom of the Herd Inventory page first, otherwise, all fields can be edited directly.

       (2)  You can also edit incorrect information directly from the Lineage Report screen by finding right-clicking on the animal’s name in that report.  Its Herd Inventory record will be displayed and can be edited from that point.

Because of the careful planning that has always been a part of the GMS development process, you have several ways to approach a task depending on your preference.
